Audience: High school biology teachers
Capacity: 30 participants
Fees: Free for Lane County High School Science Teachers, $150/day for teachers outside of Lane County
  • Engage in lessons from the Patterns Biology NGSS curriculum series, with a focus on Unit 3: Cells to Organisms. NOTE: Unit 1, Ecosystems and Biodiversity will be taught in Summer 2020. This requires outdoor field-work and is best taught in summer.
  • Discuss and participate in lessons that model the instructional shifts needed for teaching the NGSS with students. Instructional shifts addressed include: culturally responsive teaching in science, strategies and supports for emerging bilingual students in science, and differentiating instruction. Description: In this one-day workshop, teachers will be introduced to the curriculum and approach to teaching Patterns Biology NGSS Curriculum, which is a (free) open-source curriculum developed by science teachers and curriculum specialists in Oregon.
Lunch: No lunch will be provided.
Prerequisites: None
All participants will be provided a certificate for PDUs based on the training hours.
